Cork City have sacked manager Alan Matthews after a season of turmoil at Turner's Cross. The former Longford Town manager had taken over from Damien Richardson 12 months ago following the sacking of Richardson.
Cork City did win the Setanta Cup against Glentoran on 1st November but failure to enter the UEFA Europa league is the cause of the sacking.
Cork City have also stated that wages have to lowered if the club is to have a secure financial future and Matthews' sacking is seen as one way to lower wages.
The club have also agree new contracts with Dennis Behan, Joe Gamble and Dan Murray but all have taken some cuts.
The club are also rumored to be in talks over Liam Kearney but nothing is confirmed.
